Baylis Automotive (Smethwick) was acquired by Hunt and Rogers Automotive
Ltd in May 2004. The Baylis plant was previously owned
by Wagon Plc and has been in existence for many years,
formerly as SS&P.
The all asset purchase included a healthy order book in excess of £4.5m with major OEM and first tier accounts. These include Ford, Jaguar, Land Rover, MG Rover, Visteon, Denso, amongst others. With the closure of its Tyseley operation an additional £1.5m was transferred to the Baylis plant.
The Baylis plant, which is situated near Junction 1 of the M5 in Smethwick, West Midlands operates from 50,000 sqft of industrial units employing some 120 people.
Many of the customers are outside the UK and therefore Baylis have an export
order book in excess of £1.5m.
Products are mainly automotive metal pressings and welded assemblies; however, the company still has accounts with the building and leisure industries.
The equipment ranges from 300Tonne presses to 10 Tonne presses, with 200Tonne progression capability. Other equipment includes Robotic MIG welding, spot welding up to 150 KVa and high speed Bruder presses.
